ICECYCLES awesome free bike workshops in East Christchurch

Three cheers for Jonathan, Steve and Jenny from ICECYCLES (Inner City East Cycles), who have been running FREE bike maintenance workshops in the Eastern suburbs for the past three years. Jonathan writes:

"We are a group of around dozen volunteers who provide free bike maintenance and encourage people to have a go at doing their own repairs as well. It is a free service we offer and are self funded.We have probably provided around 200 repairs and given away 100 bikes that we have repaired/restored to a safe road worthy level.

Why: Promoting and enabling cycling for health, enjoyment and self sufficiency. People cannot justify paying the high cost of repairs charged by bike shops so this offers them a chance to get going again and learn how to do it themselves."

If you're keen to know how to change your flattie or grease your chain, rock up to 105 North Avon Road (the new location of the Delta Community Support Trust), next Saturday the 21st of July, 1pm-4pm.

I am thankful for this workshop because it has led me to my current career which is very successful right now. If not for this organziation, I wouldn't have discovered my passion which is about bicycles. Now I am planning on having my own workshops on bicycle maintenance and more.

Users of bicycles from all walks of life can benefit greatly from this kind of workshop because it teaches people how to properly use and maintain their gear. This will save them a lot of money in the long run because of improper use and unecessary trips to the repair shop. I am looking to attend the next wave of workshops in our town.

There are a lot of things you can learn from this workshop and it is because of this that I already have my own bike store. I make it a point to help other people in choosing the best equipment for their needs and proper maintenance as well. It has provided me with a very profitable business.
